  • What is Cymorth Cymru?

    Cymorth Cymru is the umbrella body for providers of homelessness, housing-related support and social care services in Wales. See About Us for more information.

  • What does Cymorth do?

    Cymorth Cymru works with service providers, policy makers and partners to prevent homelessness and improve the quality of life for the people our members support. Broadly speaking, we:

    • act as the ‘voice of the sector’, influencing the development and implementation of policy and legislation on behalf of our members
    • strengthen and challenge the sector by hosting a variety of training and events on current issues and good practice, and by ensuring our members are kept up to date with the latest sector news and developments
    • play a key ‘connecting’ role, linking different policy areas and promoting effective partnership working to ensure the best possible outcomes for our members and the people they support.

  • Who are your members?

    Our membership is made up of third sector organisations, housing associations and local authorities from across Wales. Cymorth members work with a wide range of people including people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness; families fleeing domestic abuse; people dealing with mental or physical health problems; people with learning disabilities; people with alcohol or substance misuse problems; refugees and people seeking asylum; care leavers and other vulnerable young people, and older people in need of support.   • How is Cymorth funded?

    Cymorth is funded through a combination of Welsh Government core funding, membership fees and income generated by our training and events programme. We work hard to ensure that the majority of our funding comes from independent sources so that we can maintain our independence as an organisation.

  • Does Cymorth provide support services?

    Cymorth does not provide support services. Instead we support and challenge the sector to provide the best possible services to people who are marginalised or at risk of housing crisis in Wales.

  • I’m homeless or at risk of losing my home. Can Cymorth help me?

    We are not a public-facing organisation and so are unable to provide support services or housing advice. If you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, we would suggest contacting Shelter Cymru’s advice and support line on 0845 075 5005 or visiting their website.

  • Who can join Cymorth?

    Cymorth membership is open to organisations that provide homelessness, housing related support, supported living and social care services in Wales.

  • How do I join?

    Very easily.  You can join Cymorth by completing our membership form online  Membership runs from 1 April – 31 March each year. If you join mid-year we pro-rata the fee.

  • How much is it to join?

    The membership fee varies and is based on your annual turnover. See ‘Join Cymorth’ to see what your membership fee would be.

  • What do I get for my membership?

    Membership of Cymorth offers a variety of benefits. As well as getting your views clearly and effectively represented to Welsh Government, you also benefit from significant discounts on training, events and advertising, and are kept up to date with the latest policy and sector developments. You can also contribute to and learn from wider discussions across the sector, and benefit from networking with other members.  See a full list of membership benefits

  • We don’t provide direct services – can we still join?

    We have an ‘Organisational Supporter’ membership category which is suitable for organisations that don’t provide direct services. You will still get access to the information we send out as a well as discounts on selected events and training. Find out more

  • I’m an individual with an interest in this area. Can I join Cymorth Cymru?

    We have an ‘Individual Supporter’ for people with an interest in this area who would like to stay abreast of the latest news and developments. This is a good option for people studying housing, social care or related issues, or for professionals of one sector wishing to learn about others. You will get access to the information we send out as a well as discounts on selected events and training. Find out more

  • We are based outside of Wales. Can we still join?

    As an organisation outside of Wales, you can join as an ‘Organisational Supporter’. We will not be able to represent your interests with the Welsh Government, but you will still have access to the information we send out and will benefit from discounts on selected training and events.   • How do I apply to join the Board?

    Cymorth has a pro-active and engaged Board of 12 people who are elected from member organisations, and 4 independent members who are appointed. Elections to the Board are held at our Annual General Meeting, usually held in the Autumn. The date will be advertised on our Events page each year, and nomination forms are available.  If you are interested in joining the Board, we suggest you contact our Director, Auriol Miller, for an informal conversation in the first instance, to find out what Board membership entails.

  • Can you add me to your mailing list?

    Of course. To join our mailing list, simply complete our sign up form at the bottom of the page. The more details you give us about yourself and your interests, the better we can tailor our information to your needs.  We promise not to give your contact details to other parties without your express permission.

  • How else can I get involved with Cymorth Cymru?

    There are lots of different ways to be involved with Cymorth, whether you are interested in supporting the organisation, getting involved in broader policy discussions, or are looking for a development opportunity for yourself or a member of your team. 

    We have a number of informal advisory groups that draw on the expertise of our members’ staff so that we can continue to develop our services to members. Our Training and Events Manager coordinates three regional Training and Events Steering Groups, while our Communications and Marketing Manager draws on our Communications Advisory Group. 

    From a policy perspective, we are frequently asked to represent members’ interests on specific partnerships or working groups.  If we have the expertise within the current staff team, we will do this ourselves, otherwise we will put out a call for people from the membership who might be interested in contributing their skills, experience or views.  We will then support you so that your can draw on and feed back to other members.

    We also run an ad hoc secondment programme for staff from member organisations when we have particular projects that need additional capacity.  These are a really cost effective way of exposing the rising stars in your team to broader issues, and seeing things from different angles in a friendly, supportive, coaching environment.     And finally, we run a rolling programme of visits to projects and services for Assembly Members and other key stakeholders. If you’d like to showcase your programme, get in touch with the Cymorth office.

  • Can we advertise a job on your website?

    Yes. You can advertise your job vacancies here. Members can advertise job vacancies free of charge. For non-members, prices start from £99+VAT.

  • Do you have any advertising / sponsorship opportunities?

    Yes. The events we run throughout the year offer a perfect opportunity to promote your organisation to a large audience. For the latest opportunities, please see our ‘Sponsorship and Exhibition’ page.
