Social care plays a key role in reducing social exclusion and helping people to maintain their independence.

Traditionally, Cymorth Cymru has worked primarily in the housing field – but we recognise the huge overlap between social care and housing, particularly through the Supporting People Programme, and so, since 2013, have begun to further develop our activities in this area.

As a number of our members have diversified into providing care, it has become clear that there is a role for an umbrella body to represent those independent not-for-profit providers who are reinvesting back into the communities they serve.

In 2013, Cymorth was commissioned by Welsh Government to undertake a study on the need for, and feasibility of, such a body. A copy of this report can be found here

As the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act ensures that local authorities have a duty to promote third sector and social enterprises, the need for an organisation to represent these organisations has never been greater.

  • Legislation

We will use this section to keep you up to date with key legislative developments and issues that have an impact on the social value care sector.

Cymorth Cymru has been working to represent our members’ views with regards to the Social Services & Wellbeing (Wales) Act, coming into force in 2016.

This Act will make comprehensive changes to the current system of care in Wales, and we are working to ensure that the views of our members are taken into account, and that opportunities for collaboration and removal of duplication are noted.
