Modernising domestic abuse services has been set as a top priority by the Welsh Assembly and local authority Supporting People and Homelessness teams. The first in our services of Nuts & Bolts one-day events, the day provided service providers and commissioners with the opportunity to discuss a range of "hot topics" that have been highlighted by the Assembly as important to address.
Areas of discussion included how we better serve people with complex needs, how we respond to men fleeing domestic abuse, as well as ensuring the general quality of services and accommodation can con- tinue to improve in the current economic climate.
The event facilitated open debate on a number of key issues such as providing services for men whilst continuing to provide gender specific services to as well as highlighting the need to raise the awareness of domestic abuse with other sectors. It also provided attendees with an opportunity learn from existing practice, new ideas and approaches and network with other providers to ensure better collaboration.
