Accreditation awarded to Salvation Army's Housing First Cardiff

SA HF Cardiff Acceditation report - Eng.jpgAt today's Housing First Wales Conference, the Salvation Army's Housing First Cardiff project will be awarded Housing First Wales accreditation by Julie James MS, Minister for Climate Change.

The accreditation follows a rigorous process, including a thorough review of the scheme’s policies and interviews with staff, Housing First tenants and other stakeholders. Following an interim recommendations report, the project had the opportunity to further develop its evidence, policies and practice. A final report was then considered by a panel of independent experts, who examined the evidence and decided to award the accreditation.

The final report, which details the process, findings, evidence and recommendations, can be downloaded here.

Catherine Docherty, Housing First Outreach Service Manager for The Salvation Army said:

"I feel incredibly proud to receive the accreditation and it is a wonderful reflection on the passion and dedication of our team and most importantly the achievements of the individuals who we support.

"Housing First is a life changing project and it is a privilege to be on this journey, delivering the model and sharing our experiences with others."

Alex Osmond, Cymorth Cymru Housing First and Lived Experience Manager said:

"Working with Cath and the team at Salvation Army Cardiff Housing First has been an incredibly moving and thought-provoking process. It’s great to be able to award Housing First Wales Accreditation after going through that process. Reading project documentation, and talking to a wide range of people involved – including a number of clients who were willing to give up their time to share their views – has convinced us that the work being done by the team really does align with our Housing First principles.

"The team have actively committed to this process and clearly been eager to learn and develop their practice. As I understand it, the team started making changes to their work before the accreditation process was finished, which really highlights their dedication to a model of support that transforms and saves lives."
