Welsh Government testing update 

The Welsh Government has published its weekly testing update, including the number of tests conducted, the number of people tested and a breakdown of how many people in each key worker category have been tested. 

The Welsh Government has also published a written statement on care home testing, which confirms that from Monday 15th June, all care home staff will be offered a weekly test for a four-week period. 

Welsh Government Written Statement: Special payment for the social care workforce 

The First Minister has published a written statement about the special, one-off payment of £500 for all care home workers, domiciliary care workers and ancillary staff working in residential homes that have played an active role in supporting the provision of care.  

Ministers call for UK Government VAWDASV funding to reach charities in Wales

Welsh Government Ministers Julie James MS and Jane Hutt MS have announced that they have issued a joint letter to the Home Office, calling for new UK Government VAWDASV funding to reach charities in Wales. 

UK Government: Changes to furlough scheme

The UK Government has announced changes to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. From 1 July 2020, businesses will be given the flexibility to bring furloughed employees back part time, with further changes in August and September. Welsh Government: Face coverings announcement, technical advice, FAQs and guide

The Welsh Government is now recommending that people in Wales wear 3 layer face coverings in situations where social distancing is not possible. They have also published:

  • The Technical Advisory Cell advice about the use of face coverings
  • A series of FAQs about how and when you could wear a face covering
  • Step by step guide to making a non-medical, 3 layer face covering at home

Test, Trace, Protect: Consideration of professional roles when contact tracing

We continue to raise the potential unintended consequences of Test, Trace, Protect on homelessness, housing and support services in Wales. However, in the meantime, we wanted to draw your attention to the Welsh Government guidance, particularly the section about how the contract tracer will take into consideration circumstances such as people working in health and social care roles:

"The contact tracer will take into consideration any additional circumstances, such as contacts who work in health and social care professional roles and the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), any protective screens used in the workplace, and adherence to the 2m distancing rule which, if correctly followed, will not be regarded as a contact for these purposes."

The Deputy Minister for Health and Social Care has published a written statement about childcare provision and the review of their decisions regarding the Childcare Offer and Coronavirus Childcare Assistance Scheme. 

Welsh Government: The next phase of the Economic Resilience Fund

The Welsh Government has announced changes for the next phase of its Economic Resilience Fund. The online eligibility checker has reopened and businesses will be able to make applications for support from this phase of the fund by the end of the month.
