Welsh Government: Local lockdowns

On 9 October the Welsh Government announced that local restrictions would be introduced in Bangor at 6pm on Saturday 10 October. As with other areas experiencing local lockdowns, the Welsh Government has published FAQs and a map to show the areas affected by the restrictions.

Welsh Government written statements: Testing

Following delays to reporting 16,000 tests in England, the Welsh Government asked for urgent clarification from the UK Government about the extent to which this had affected Wales. On 6 October the Welsh Minister for Health and Social Services published a written statement to confirm that Welsh tests had not been affected. He also announced that the Lighthouse Lab in Newport was now operational. 

On 8 October the Minister for Health and Social Services published another written statement about a possible UK-wide supply problem affecting the provision of diagnostic kits and reagents supplied by the pharmaceutical company Roche. 


Contact details for employers: Regional Test Trace and Protect teams

The Welsh Government has published contact details for the regional Test Trace and Protect teams across Wales, stating that if you have more than one confirmed case of COVID-19 in your workplace within 14 days you must report it to them.

Covid 19 Reconstruction: Challenges and Priorities

The Welsh Government has announced £320million funding to support the delivery of its Covid Reconstruction – Challenges and Priorities report. This document sets out 8 priority areas, including short and long-term actions, to help stabilise Wales as we continue to live with the virus and to make sure we’re ready to rebuild once a vaccine or a cure has been found.

The Counsel General also delivered an oral statement on this matter in the Senedd, which was followed by questions from opposition and backbench Members of the Senedd. 


Statement by the Minister for Finance: Fiscal impacts of COVID-19 and future budget prospects

The Welsh Government's Minister for Finance delivered an oral statement to the Senedd about the fiscal impacts of COVID-19 and future budget prospects. In this statement, she referenced the Chancellor’s decision to cancel the UK autumn budget, the uncertainty surrounding the UK comprehensive spending review and the lack of information on replacement EU funding. This was followed by questions from opposition and backbench Members of the Senedd. 


Economic Resilience Fund - find out if your business is eligible for support from phase 3

The Welsh Government's Economy Minister is encouraging businesses to find out whether they are eligible for support from phase 3 of the Economic Resilience Fund. The Eligibility Checker for the fund can be found here


Housing Policies And the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Perspective From The Wales Knowledge Exchange Hub

The UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence' Wales Knowledge Exchange Hub has published a new report 'Housing Policies And The Covid-19 Pandemic'. Authored by Dr Pete Mackie and Dr Bob Smith, this report provides a summary of discussions from the CaCHE Knowledge Exchange Wales Hub meeting on 24 July 2020. It also highlights a number of key challenges, many of which have a resonance beyond Wales in terms of housing and governmental responses to the current pandemic. 


Scheme to help tenants affected by coronavirus launches in Wales

The Minister for Housing and Local Government Julie James MS has announced a new £8 million Welsh Government Tenancy Saver Loan scheme to help tenants struggling with rent arrears due to coronavirus. 

The Welsh Government has published guidance for tenants about how to apply for a Tenancy Saver Loan.

The new Welsh Government Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing, Eluned Morgan MS, has published a written statement about mental health and the COVID-19 pandemic. 


COVID-19: Rapid Review of Care Homes

The Welsh Government has published a Rapid Review of Care Homes in Relation to Covid-19 in Wales. This is an independent review of care homes’ operational experience between July and September 2020 and includes several key considerations for health and care partnerships.
