COVID-19 update 81

Please see below for our latest COVID-19 update for the homelessness, housing and support sector in Wales.

We are not expecting any further announcements from the Welsh Government before Christmas, so we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in the homelessness, housing and support sector for your incredible work over the last year - we hope you manage to get a break over the festive period.

Changes from 26 December:

The First Minister has announced that Wales will move into Alert Level 2 on at 6am Boxing Day, which will include the following restrictions:

  • No spectators allowed at any indoor, outdoor, professional or community sports event.
  • 2 metre social distancing will be required in offices and all public premises.
  • A maximum of six people can meet in public premises.
  • Licenced premises will need to take additional reasonable measures to protect customers and staff.
  • A maximum of 30 people can attend indoor events and a maximum of 50 people at outdoor events.
  • People attending weddings or civil partnership receptions or wakes should take a lateral flow test before attending.
  • Nightclubs will close.

The First Minister has published a written statement which outlines the changes to restrictions from Boxing Day, and the rationale behind these decisions.

Although the Welsh Government is not amending regulations relating to people's private homes and gardens, the First Minister has reiterated the following advice to help people to stay safe:

  • Limit the number of people visiting your home. If people are visiting, make sure they take a lateral flow test before they come.
  • Meeting outdoors is better than indoors. If you’re meeting indoors make sure rooms are well ventilated.
  • Space out any visits.
  • Remember the importance of social distancing and washing your hands.

Staying safe at Christmas

The Welsh Government has issued the following guidance for the festive period:

COVID-19 vaccination – Children and young people

Eluned Morgan MS, Minister for Health and Social Services, has published a written statement about the JCVI's recommendations to further expand the COVID-19 vaccination programme for children and young people.

NHS Wales will identify eligible 5 to 11-year-olds in the “at risk” groups and begin offering appointments in the New Year, and under 18s who are eligible for a booster dose will receive an appointment when they become eligible.

COVID-19 treatments

The Welsh Government has published guidance about COVID-19 treatments that may be available to NHS patients at greater risk from COVID-19. There are 2 ways in which people can receive these treatments:

  • As part of people's standard care if they are at highest risk of severe COVID-19 and extremely vulnerable
  • Through a UK wide antiviral study called PANORAMIC.

VAWDASV services over the festive period

The Minister for Social Justice has published a letter in Welsh and in English, thanking support providers and highlighting the VAWDASV services which continue to be available over the festive period.
