COVID-19 update 85

Changes from 28th January

On Friday the First Minister published a written statement confirming Wales' move to Alert Level 0. As a result, from 28 January:

  • The general requirement of 2m social distancing in all premises open to the public and workplaces will be removed.
  • Working from home will remain important but it will no longer be a legal requirement.
  • Businesses, employers and other organisations must continue to undertake a specific coronavirus risk assessment and take reasonable measures to minimise the spread of coronavirus, which may include 2m social distancing or controlled entry.
  • The rule of six will no longer apply to gatherings in regulated premises, such as hospitality, cinemas and theatres.
  • Licensed premises will no longer need to only provide table service and collect contact details. The Covid Pass will continue to be required to enter larger indoor events, nightclubs, cinemas, theatres and concert halls.
  • Nightclubs can re-open.

Chief Medical Officer & Chief Social Care Officer letter

The Chief Medical Officer and Chief Social Care Officer have published a joint letter to care and support workers in Wales, highlighting recent changes to restrictions and guidance for these sectors. The letter is available in English and in Welsh.

Updated PHW guidance

Public Health Wales has updated its infection prevention and control guidance for care and support settings, including care homes, supported living and supported accommodation. 

Self-isolation period reduced

On January 28th the Minister for Health and Social Services announced that the self-isolation period has been reduced to five days and published a written statement outlining these changes. As a result, the following guidance has been updated:

Registering Lateral Flow Test results

The Welsh Government has asked us to remind everyone about the importance of reporting your lateral flow test results, regardless of whether you test positive or negative. 

COVID-19 Vaccination update

On 25th January the Minister for Health and Social Services has published a written statement about the latest progress against the delivery of the vaccination strategy. The Welsh Government has also published the COVID-19 vaccination programme weekly update for 25 January 2022. 

Reminder: Changes to Tenancy Hardship Fund

On 12th January the Minister for Climate Change published a written statement about the Tenancy Hardship Fund, outlining the following changes:

  • The grant is being extended to include all social housing tenants who were not in receipt of housing-related benefits when they built up Covid-related rent arrears.
  • The current eligibility period for arrears will be extended to include Covid-related arrears built up between 1 July 2021 and 31 December 2021.

International Travel

The First Minister has published a written statement which announced the following changes to international travel guidance and restriction:

From 4am on Friday 11th February:  

  • Fully vaccinated passengers (who have had their full primary courses) will no longer need a pre-departure test two days before travelling to the UK. The only requirement will be for them to complete a Passenger Locator Form;
  • Unvaccinated travellers or ineligible travellers should complete a Passenger Location Form, a pre-departure test within two days of their scheduled departure, and a PCR arrival test taken on or before day two;
  • All under-18s, regardless of their vaccination status, can now enter the UK without a pre-departure test. However, if you are travelling abroad with children we would urge you to check the different requirements for children, including if they need to be fully vaccinated.
