LFD testing for housing, homelessness and support workforces

In conjunction with WLGA, CHC and Cymorth Cymru, we have been working hard to ensure that the appropriate routes for regular Covid-19 testing for workforces in the housing, homelessness and support sector are available to the relevant organisations. Some elements of these workforces and organisations will already be accessing regular Covid-19 testing due to the range of services they provide, particularly those services embedded in social care and local authority services.  Some organisations will already be accessing this through the workplace testing programme.

Following recent developments in the national testing programme, we are now in a position where we can offer immediate LFD testing to the these workforces.

  1. The simplest and immediate way to access lateral flow tests is to make use of the recently launched LFD Collect and LFD Direct channels.  Aimed at those that cannot work from home, volunteers and individuals with caring responsibilities (so those individuals in direct contact with people), packs of test kits can either be collected from locations across Wales (LFD Collect) or making a request for packs to be sent directly to their home address, either through the UK Government website or by calling 119 (LFD Direct).

Full details and links to the UK Government online request pages can be found at https://gov.wales/get-rapid-lateral-flow-covid-19-tests-if-you-do-not-have-symptoms

  1. Additionally, if your organisation would prefer to directly manage the distribution of test kits and have additional sight of management information, such as test results, for your staff/volunteers you will need to make an application to the Workplace testing programme. You can find more information about Workplace testing and details on how to make an application at https://gov.wales/covid-19-workplace-testing-framework-html.
  1. We also recognise that some housing organisations may already have a Unique Organisation Number (UON) through the Salesforce solution as you are providing care in a registered setting. You should continue to use this method for accessing tests for your frontline social care staff. If you also require testing for other groups of staff, such as maintenance workers, community support workers etc. they should access tests through LFD Collect / Direct.
