24 December, 2020Statutory Sick Pay Enhancement Scheme extended to homelessness and housing support workers
The Welsh Government's Statutory Sick Pay Enhancement Scheme was established to provide financial support to social care workers who are required to stay off work due to COVID-19 / self-isolation. Its purpose is to restrict the spread of infection and protect groups who are vulnerable to COVID-19 by removing the financial disadvantage of staying away from work.
The Scheme has now been extended to homelessness and housing-related support workers. This follows detailed meetings between Cymorth and Welsh Government officials, where we made the case for their inclusion in the scheme.
The Welsh Government has circulated a letter in
Welsh and
English which explains the rationale behind this decision.
The guidance can be found on the Welsh Government's
website.
The scheme started to apply to these workers on the following dates:
- 14 December - Support workers in supported housing schemes, floating support, emergency accommodation
- 24 December - Homelessness outreach workers
This means that you can pay eligible employees at full pay as per your usual payroll arrangements for the COVID-19 related absences, as outlined in the attached letter and guidance from the above dates.
