Barnardo's: housing support service for singles and young families


Before being referred to Barnardo’s, Person A was in private rented accommodation, the rent was very high and had to make top up payments every month. Person A had fallen into arrears considerably and was struggling to make payments.

 

Since receiving support Person A now manages there accommodation, has set up direct debits and is confident in reporting any issues to housing association. Referred by Merthyr Valleys Homes, Person A was supported by ADREF LTD, LATSS - Local Authority Tenancy Support Scheme (Merthyr Tydfil) as she was in rent arrears and the house was in disrepair.

 

Throughout support PERSON A was encouraged to continue with a 2nd year in college. PERSON A’s ambition in life was to become a lawyer to benefit her and the 2 children and be able to stand on her own two feet.

An established charity with projects across Wales, Llamau has been working for over 26 years, to offer support, help, accommodation and housing advice to homeless and vulnerable young people and women in Wales. Llamau's Family Mediation Service won the Homelessness Prevention category at the 2015 Promoting Independence Awards.
