Audrey Danby

Pendinas is a hostel in Bangor. Run by North Wales Housing Association, it provides support and accommodation for eight vulnerable homeless people who have complex needs.

Audrey couldn’t afford to sustain her private tenancy and was homeless before she moved into the Pendinas hostel.

Audrey had previously overcome heroin addiction, but a tragic family event resulted in her relapsing. She suffered from problems with her physical health and was on an order with probation due to shoplifting offences. When Audrey moved into the hostel, she had issues with her mental health and was suffering with severe depression.

Since being at the hostel Audrey has been on a methadone program with Substance Misuse Services and is now reducing 5mg a month. After reducing more of the methadone she is expected to go into Hafan Wen Rehab in order to switch from methadone to suboxone and be abstinent of the heroin. Since being in the hostel she has significantly reduced the amount of heroin she takes from when she moved in.

She has also been working with Cais and attended the Recovery Coaching sessions, which involved working with her to try and figure out the root cause of her addictions and adopt specific tools that she can use in here day to day life to help her to achieve abstinence.

Audrey has been successful in gaining a supported housing flat with North Wales Housing in Bangor and will be moving in at the beginning of May.

She has also applied and has been accepted to attend an access course in September to study Health and Social Science in Coleg Menai, Bangor. She then hopes to be able to attend university and gain a degree within Social Sciences.
